Data Retention & Deletion
Overview
We’ve implemented a new data retention strategy to better manage our storage while ensuring you maintain access to your content. This policy focuses on archiving older data that is rarely accessed, rather than deleting it entirely.
Important: No data is being deleted. You’ll still have access to all content after an order is completed, though older files may be at reduced quality or have slower download speeds.
Previous Strategy
Previously, we kept all files in their original full resolution format, including raw files. While this provided maximum quality, the storage requirements have become unsustainable as our data volume has grown exponentially.
New Data Retention Policy
Our new approach uses a tiered system based on file age, strategically archiving older content that is rarely downloaded while maintaining quick access to recent files.
Level 1: Archive Optimization (2+ months old)
For orders and content older than 2 months:
- We remove the prepared quick-download cache from storage
- Files remain fully accessible but with slower download speeds
- No quality reduction at this stage
Level 2: File Optimization (3+ months old)
For orders and content older than 3 months, we optimize file sizes and formats:
Output/Completed Files
- Resized to approximately 1-2MB per image
- Quality optimized for web delivery
Source Files
- Converted to JPEG format when possible
- Target size of approximately 2MB
- Raw files are no longer preserved indefinitely in original format
Project Files
- Primarily targets large PSD and TIFF files
- TIFF files converted to JPEG format (few MB in size)
- PSD files: One version retained as PSD, additional versions converted to JPEG
Level 3: Data Deletion
Currently, we have no plans to delete old data. If this policy changes in the future, we will update this documentation and provide advance notice.
Impact on Users
- Recent orders (under 2 months): No impact - full speed and quality
- Older orders (2-3 months): Slower downloads but full quality
- Oldest orders (3+ months): Optimized file sizes but content remains accessible
This policy ensures efficient storage management while preserving access to your historical content.
